CCW - Ruthin 200km

A really rewarding day on the bike. 200km with 2300m of climbing

The route starts in Nantwich on the small business estate at the back of Sainsbury's. There is always plenty of free parking available. Complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits, toast etc available before departure.

Leaving the historic market town of Nantwich at 08:00, passing through Wrenbury, Whitchurch and Loppington to get to the first control in Baschurch along pleasant Cheshire and Shropshire lanes. 

You then cross the border into Wales at Llanymynech and onto the control at Llanfyllin. From now on expect some climbing. First you have to climb to get yourself over to Llanrhaeder-ym-Mochant, then it's uphill again to get yourself over to Llanarmon DC. The uphills reward you with breathtaking views on the way up and for every uphill there is always a downhill! Next you need to climb out of Glyn Ceriog to reach the next control. You can now push on along the ridge before dropping down into the beautiful town of Llangollen.

From Llangollen you climb the stunning Horsheoe Pass and then get to descend to Ruthin via Nant-y-Garth Pass. You have to control in this delightful historical Welsh town before heading back uphill, making your way along the A494 before picking up the B5430 which will take you the Llanarmon yn Ial which means that the bulk of the climbing is now behind you. That won't stop cursing as you still have to haul yourself up into Gresford, although you will now be less than 10km from the final control at Holt, the last chance for a feed before the final 35km or so back to the arrivee.

Once back at the arrivee there will be a soup and a roll along with tea, coffee, cake and biscuits and a warm welcome letting you recover before your onward home journey, all in all, a top day out!
