We have a full and extensive calendar of races including 10k time trials, hilly time trials etc.
Scroll down for information on what we do, then come back to find info on upcoming races and training events.
We have an impressive racing pedigree with current and previous members holding local and national records.
There have been several successful road racing results through the club's history, however, throughout the club's history, time trialing remains the most popular.
The club runs a very popular hilly 17 mile time trial as an early season opener event and then runs 10 mile time trials on Wednesday evenings over the summer. All time trial events are governed, in line with current CTT regulations.
If you're an old hand or a complete beginner there is a wealth of experience and support within the club, whether you are road racing or time trialing.
The club currently affiliates to the below organisations which allows our members to enter their events:
• British Cycling
• Cycling Time Trials
• Manchester District of Cycling Time Trials
• Manchester and District Ladies Cycling Association
• Newcastle Track Cycling Association
• Cycle UK
The club's hilly 17 mile TT is a very popular way for local riders to gauge the success of their winter training programme and is usually held in May. The event is always well supported and has a very generous prize purse.
You can ride any roadworthy, conventional solo bike. You do not have to have a TT bike or aero bars, a standard road bike is perfect. You can ride it as a solo event or with a friend as a 2UP. Enter via the CTT website
Held every Wed night for 16 consecutive week over the lighter, warmer months (check calendar on the home page for relevant dates).
The club meets at the Vagrants Sports Club ( CW5 7EP) at 18:15-18:30 to sign on and get a race number. The first rider sets off at 19:01 with a rider starting every minute thereafter. You sign on at the Vagrants before cyclign to the course start point to arrive in time for your designated start time (approx 3 miles).
You can ride any roadworthy conventional solo bike (it has been done on a mountain bike!), you do not have to have a TT bike or aero bars, a standard road bike is perfect.
The course starts a couple hundred metres past Stapeley Broad Lane CofE Primary School on the A529. Proceed through Hatherton, turning and through Hunterstone before turning left onto the A51 through Walgherton, then finally past the timekeeper just beyond Stapeley Grange RSCPA.
After the event, riders return to the Vagrants car park for the event results to be read out, after which several club members use the facilities in the Vagrants bar. Just to be social you understand.
A points competition is held for all participating members over the season for both those riding a time trial specific bike or a standard drop handle bar road bike.
The club hopes to have a strong presence at this event with over a dozen riders. This is a 25 mile time trial and can be ridden by any club member on a conventional bicycle. You do not have to have a time trial bike. It would be great to see anyone who is new to this distance enter this event to have a go. There will be plenty of roadside support as all club members who are not riding are encouraged to come and support those riding. All members are encouraged to bring their family members to shout for the Clarion riders. After the event we will convene at a nearby venue for a buffet and a social gathering of all the club members and their families. It really would be great to have a good turn out so please mark the date in your diary. Remember, if you're not riding you are expected to be supporting!
There has been some recent interest and success from members in the Newcastle Track Cycling Association. The club affiliates to NTCA for it's members benefits. If you are interested in having a go, then please get in touch
The club does not currently host any other time trial events at any other distances so those looking for 25 mile, 50 mile, 100 mile 12 hr course etc use the local events run by other local cycling clubs.
There is a very active section of the club interested in open time trial events (especially popular are the 25 mile events) and they co-ordinate their diaries via Whatsapp so that they can provided support and encouragement to each other throughout the season as well as aiming for team prizes.
There is a Whatsapp group dedicated to CCW racing contingent. If any club members would like to be added to the group please contact Graham Peel.
The club has had some very successful road racers over the years.
Club members looking for road racing can ride the local TLI Oulton Park series and Audlem Road Race series etc.
If you are interested in joining in, get in touch.
If taking your bike for a run whilst getting very dirty is your thing then we also have members who engage in cyclo cross events
